Our Mission is to celebrate local, regional and worldwide missions that address hunger, poverty, education and disaster relief as a way of growing our relationship with Jesus Christ.
The Ingathering began in 7 small rural churches in northwest Iowa back in the late 70s. The first event, involving 300 laity and clergy, brought in $44,882 from an auction, gifts in kind (UMCOR etc.) and craft sale. Then, in 2000, all of the districts in Iowa were engaged and the total passed the $1 million mark and has averaged that amount each year since.
We are inviting you and your congregation to seriously consider joining as one of 16 churches in SW District and raising funds for one of your favorite missions. Together, we will choose 5 missions of which at least 1 must be local, 1 must be regional and 1 must be international. The remaining 2 missions may be of any location. What favorite mission would you and your congregation recommend?
The first step is to let Arthur Richardson (Sweeney UMC) or Paul Kethley (Columbia UMC) know if you have an interest in recommending a favorite mission.
The second step is to provide a name of a contact person from your staff, congregation or church committee to receive further information.
The third step is to reserve the date of November 2 for the Thanksgiving Ingathering.
